Fnality appoints ex-central bankers to boost expansion

Fnality appoints Jon Cunliffe as UK chair and adds Jochen Metzger, Ron Berndsen to its European board, strengthening leadership as it expands blockchain settlement for tokenized assets.

Fnality, a provider of blockchain-based wholesale payment systems, has named Jon Cunliffe as chair of its UK board. Jochen Metzger and Ron Berndsen will join the supervisory board of its European entity. These appointments, effective September 10, 2026, bring deep central banking expertise to Fnality as it pursues regulatory approval to expand its central bank-backed settlement network beyond sterling to include dollar and euro systems. Fnality’s platform allows banks to settle obligations using central bank money, enabling atomic delivery-versus-payment and payment-versus-payment settlement for tokenized assets such as stocks and bonds. The sterling system launched in 2023, and the company is supported by major financial institutions including Goldman Sachs, UBS, Santander, Bank of America, and Citigroup. These leadership moves underscore growing industry confidence in blockchain-based settlement infrastructure for both traditional and tokenized assets.
