Bank Leumi to launch crypto trading for 2.5M clients in 2027

Bank Leumi will partner with Galaxy Digital to offer Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana trading to clients via its apps in 2027, pending approval. The service will include integrated custody and secure in-app trading.

Bank Leumi, Israel’s largest bank, has announced a partnership with Galaxy Digital to provide cryptocurrency trading services to its 2.5 million retail clients. The service is expected to launch in early 2027, pending regulatory approval from the Bank of Israel. Clients will be able to buy, hold, and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana directly through the Leumi Trade platform and the PEPPER mobile app. Galaxy Digital will supply both trading and custody infrastructure. Its custody arm, formerly known as GK8, will be responsible for safeguarding digital assets. The service will be custodial, so customers won’t need to manage private keys, and all trading will take place within a secure section of the banking app. This marks Leumi’s second attempt to enter the crypto market, following a previous effort in 2022 that was halted due to regulatory challenges. The updated regulatory environment in Israel now offers a clearer path for banks to provide digital asset services, though final approval is still pending.
