Bybit gains Austrian EMI license, expands EU services

Bybit secured an Austrian EMI license, enabling regulated e-money and payment services across Europe. Payment and crypto operations are split but accessible via Bybit.eu.

Bybit has strengthened its regulated presence in Europe after its Austrian subsidiary, Bybit Payments GmbH, received an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from Austria’s Financial Market Authority. This license allows Bybit to offer regulated electronic money and payment services throughout the European Economic Area via the Bybit.eu platform. To comply with EU regulations, Bybit has separated its payment and crypto operations into two entities. Bybit Payments GmbH holds the EMI license for e-money and payment services, while Bybit EU GmbH operates under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) authorization for crypto services. Both entities are legally distinct but accessible through a single Bybit.eu account, providing users with a seamless experience. The EMI license enables Bybit to issue electronic money, manage payment transactions, and operate current accounts with dedicated IBANs. It also supports future payment solutions such as payment cards and open banking, positioning Bybit among a select group of exchanges with integrated financial services in Europe.
