BancaStato launches regulated crypto trading
BancaStato now enables regulated trading of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Litecoin in its banking apps, using Sygnum and Avaloq technology, with assets securely held off-balance sheet.
BancaStato, the cantonal bank of Ticino, Switzerland, has introduced regulated cryptocurrency trading. Clients can now buy, hold, and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Litecoin directly through the bank’s web and mobile apps. This service is powered by Sygnum’s API-based infrastructure and seamlessly integrated with Avaloq’s core banking system, allowing users to access digital asset trading alongside traditional banking services. Client assets are securely held in Sygnum’s institutional-grade custody solution, kept off BancaStato’s balance sheet, and managed in compliance with regulatory requirements. This setup eliminates the need for separate trading platforms or accounts, making crypto transactions as straightforward as conventional banking operations. The initiative broadens access to regulated digital assets for Swiss banking clients and reflects a growing trend among European banks to offer crypto services within supervised frameworks. Sygnum’s infrastructure and recent MiCA licensing further support the compliant rollout of these offerings.
