Augustus raises $180M to modernize dollar payments

Augustus raised $180M at a $1B valuation to expand its AI-powered clearing bank, aiming to modernize global dollar payments for fintechs and banks.

Augustus, a fintech startup, has secured $180 million in a Series B funding round led by Tiger Global, with participation from Hummingbird, QED, and founders of Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel. This investment values Augustus at $1 billion. The company is building a federally chartered clearing bank to provide international fintechs and banks with direct, programmable access to U.S. dollar accounts and payment rails. Its platform, Marble, is API-first and supports both stablecoins and traditional systems like SWIFT, ACH, and SEPA, enabling 24/7 settlement and leveraging AI for faster processing. Augustus already offers euro clearing via its regulated entity in Finland and has received conditional approval for a U.S. national bank charter. The new funding will support expansion into Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, as Augustus aims to modernize cross-border payments and resolve bottlenecks in correspondent banking.
