Circle and Nomura to launch instant FX settlement in Japan
Circle and Nomura will launch a blockchain-based FX settlement service in Japan by 2027, enabling near-instant corporate cross-border payments using USDC under new stablecoin regulations.
Circle and Nomura have announced a partnership to launch a blockchain-based foreign exchange (FX) settlement service in Japan by 2027. This initiative will allow Japanese companies to convert yen into USDC, Circle's U.S. dollar stablecoin, enabling near-instant cross-border payments and corporate transactions. Settlement times will be reduced from days to just minutes, streamlining high-value corporate payments. Nomura will oversee local client management and ensure regulatory compliance, while Circle will provide the payment infrastructure. The service targets large corporate payments, aiming to lower costs and mitigate settlement risks for major transactions. Supported by Japan's progressive stablecoin regulations, the partnership is expected to accelerate stablecoin adoption in institutional finance. Following the announcement, Circle's stock rebounded, reflecting market optimism about its expansion into Japan's significant FX market. This collaboration marks a major step in integrating digital dollar infrastructure into Japan's corporate and trade finance sectors.
