DBS Bank unveils tokenized gold for retail investors

DBS Bank will launch tokenized gold for retail users via its digibank app in 2026. Each token equals one gram of gold, making gold investment more accessible and tradable in small amounts.

DBS Bank, Singapore’s largest lender, plans to launch tokenized physical gold for retail customers through its digibank app in the second half of 2026. Each DBS Physical Gold Token will represent one gram of fully backed physical gold, securely stored in a dedicated DBS vault in Singapore. This initiative aims to lower the entry barrier for gold investment, allowing customers to buy, hold, trade, and redeem gold in small increments without needing to purchase whole bullion bars or arrange private storage. The tokens will be managed, issued, and distributed entirely in-house by DBS, with 24/7 trading and near-instant settlement available via the digital platform. While specific details about the underlying blockchain, custody, and redemption processes have not yet been disclosed, this product is positioned as a market-first for Singapore. It expands DBS’s gold offerings beyond traditional funds and bullion, making gold investment more accessible and flexible for retail users amid rising demand and competition in the tokenized gold sector.
