Banca Sella becomes first Italian bank for crypto services

Banca Sella is Italy’s first bank authorized for crypto services under MiCA, planning digital asset custody and transfer by 2026, and joining a euro stablecoin consortium.

Banca Sella has become the first Italian bank to receive authorization for crypto-asset services, following successful notification with the Bank of Italy under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The bank aims to launch digital asset custody and transfer services by the end of 2026, initially focusing on selected client categories. This initiative brings regulated crypto services into a supervised banking environment, providing Italian clients with a secure and compliant way to manage digital assets. Banca Sella is also a founding member of the Qivalis alliance, a consortium of 37 European banks developing a euro-pegged stablecoin. This milestone marks a significant step for the Italian banking sector, aligning with European trends and growing demand for digital financial services.
