Shinhan Card and Solana test stablecoin payments

Shinhan Card and Solana Foundation are piloting stablecoin payments on Solana, focusing on real-world merchant use, wallet security, and blockchain integration in South Korea.

Shinhan Card has formed a strategic partnership with the Solana Foundation to advance stablecoin-based payment systems on blockchain infrastructure. This collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, aims to expand practical blockchain payment applications by conducting advanced proof-of-concept trials on the Solana testnet. The initiative will simulate real-world payment interactions between merchants and customers, with a focus on transaction speed, network reliability, and user convenience. Shinhan Card is also assessing the security and operational stability of non-custodial wallets, as well as integrating oracle technology to ensure transaction integrity. This move is part of a broader effort among Korean card issuers, with nine companies piloting stablecoin solutions to address challenges like merchant acceptance, balance management, and interoperability. The partnership marks a significant step toward mainstream adoption of blockchain payments in South Korea, bridging traditional finance with Web3 technologies.
