Dexter Overtakes Coinbase as Top x402 Transaction Facilitator

Dexter has surpassed Coinbase as the top daily x402 transaction facilitator, now handling about half of all daily x402 payments. This marks a shift toward a more competitive and distributed payment ecosystem.

Dexter has overtaken Coinbase as the leading daily facilitator of x402 transactions, now handling about 50% of daily volume since mid-December, according to data from Hashed and Dune Analytics. Previously, Coinbase dominated the x402 payment protocol, but Dexter’s rapid growth has shifted the landscape. The x402 protocol, developed by Coinbase, enables instant stablecoin payments over standard web requests and is seeing increased adoption, particularly among AI services and data providers. Alongside Dexter and Coinbase, PayAI and DayDreams have each processed over 10 million transactions, forming the core infrastructure for early x402 adoption. The Base network leads all blockchains in x402 activity, with over 68 million total transactions, and USDC accounts for the vast majority of payment volume. The protocol’s design supports independent operators, allowing services to switch facilitators easily, which has led to a more competitive and distributed market structure. Dexter’s rise signals a move toward a multi-facilitator ecosystem, promoting decentralization and competition as demand for seamless payment rails grows.
