Cardano gains native x402 integration for digital payments

Cardano is now natively integrated with the x402 payment protocol, simplifying development for AI agents and multi-chain apps, and streamlining digital payments across Cardano environments.

Cardano has been natively integrated into the official x402 open payment protocol codebase, marking a significant milestone for the network. This integration, contributed by Cardano Foundation engineers, brings full support for client, server, and facilitator components across Cardano’s mainnet, preprod, and preview environments. Developers can now leverage Cardano in x402-based applications and AI agents using standardized infrastructure, removing the need for custom or third-party solutions. The x402 protocol, originally developed by Coinbase, utilizes the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code to enable direct payments over the internet, benefiting autonomous AI agents and multi-chain applications. This advancement streamlines Cardano’s inclusion in digital payment workflows, enhances interoperability, and positions Cardano as a key infrastructure for emerging AI and machine-to-machine payment use cases.
