Georgia Moves to Blockchain Land Registry and Real Estate Tokenization
Georgia partners with Hedera to explore blockchain-based land registry and real estate tokenization, aiming to boost transparency, security, and efficiency in property management.
Georgia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hedera to explore the integration of blockchain technology into its public registry and the tokenization of real estate assets. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Justice, aims to modernize government infrastructure by migrating property data from the National Agency of Public Registry to the Hedera blockchain. This move is intended to enhance property rights protection, increase transparency, and improve the reliability of verification processes. Tokenization would allow real estate ownership to be represented as digital tokens, streamlining transactions and enabling fractional ownership. The agreement is nonbinding and will proceed with the formation of joint working groups to assess technical requirements and outline next steps. Georgia has prior experience with blockchain, having registered over 100,000 property records on the Bitcoin blockchain in 2017. The country continues to pursue blockchain-based solutions for public administration, including discussions on a central bank digital currency. The partnership with Hedera signals a structured approach to adopting advanced digital tools in government workflows.
