Kenya digitizes academic records on Avalanche blockchain

Kenya anchors over 15 million academic records on Avalanche’s C-Chain, launching a digital e-certificate system to reach 35 million records and ensure instant, tamper-proof verification.

Kenya has launched a nationwide e-certificate system through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), anchoring over 15 million academic records on Avalanche’s C-Chain blockchain. The initiative is expected to reach 30–35 million records, covering academic credentials dating back to 1989, including primary, secondary, higher diploma, and teacher certification programs. Nearly one million 2025 KCSE certificates are now available exclusively in digital format. Developed with local technology providers and leveraging the LegitDoc platform, the system aims to make academic credentials instantly verifiable, tamper-proof, and resistant to forgery. This new platform replaces manual verification processes, reducing verification times from months to seconds. Candidates can securely access, download, and verify their certificates online, while employers and universities can authenticate records on-chain, addressing widespread certificate fraud. Avalanche’s C-Chain serves as the exclusive blockchain infrastructure for this major public-sector deployment.
