Chainlink unlocks $5B Bitcoin liquidity on Monad

Chainlink’s CCIP enables cbBTC transfers from Base to Monad, unlocking $5B in Bitcoin-backed liquidity for DeFi. Early markets from Curvance and Neverland are launching.

Chainlink has enabled the transfer of Coinbase’s wrapped Bitcoin token, cbBTC, from the Base network to Monad via its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This integration unlocks over $5 billion in Bitcoin-backed liquidity for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications on Monad. Developers can now build lending, trading, and structured finance products using cbBTC, with early adopters like Curvance and Neverland launching markets centered on the token. The process ensures cbBTC remains fully backed 1:1 by Bitcoin held in custody, while CCIP provides a secure, standardized framework for cross-chain transfers. This move positions Monad as a key player in the multi-chain DeFi ecosystem, offering fast settlement and low fees for Bitcoin-based products. Chainlink’s CCIP has already processed over $28 trillion in on-chain transaction value, further supporting the security and reliability of these cross-chain operations.
