Digital wallets set to transform asset management

Franklin Templeton and peers foresee digital wallets managing all assets via tokenization. Infrastructure is ready, but trust, utility, and education are key for adoption.

Franklin Templeton predicts that digital wallets will soon become the primary platform for storing and managing all types of financial assets—including stocks, bonds, and funds—through tokenization. This perspective, shared at the Ondo Summit in New York, was supported by representatives from Fidelity, State Street, and WisdomTree, who noted that tokenization infrastructure is already operational and expanding beyond pilot phases. Despite these advancements, panelists emphasized that the main challenges now lie in building utility, trust, and education to encourage broader adoption. Tokenizing assets on the blockchain is relatively straightforward, but creating an ecosystem that delivers real value to users remains complex. The shift toward wallet-native asset management is seen as the next evolutionary step for the industry. However, widespread adoption is still in its early stages, with much of the current focus on client education and exploring new use cases.
