Opera MiniPay adds USDT and gold, shares surge amid growth

Opera’s MiniPay wallet now supports USDT and Tether Gold, boosting financial access in emerging markets. The update drove an 18% surge in Opera shares and rapid user growth, with over 12.6 million wallets activated.

Opera has expanded its MiniPay wallet, built on the Celo blockchain, to support Tether’s USDT and Tether Gold (XAUT). This enables users in emerging markets to hold and transfer both dollar-pegged and gold-backed digital assets, addressing financial inclusion challenges in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. The integration has fueled significant adoption, with MiniPay surpassing 12.6 million activated wallets and 3.64 million on-chain users. In December 2025 alone, the platform processed over $153 million in stablecoin transactions and saw more than 3 million peer-to-peer USDT payments. On-chain user growth reached 50% in Q4 2025. Following the announcement, Opera’s share price surged by up to 18%. Celo became the fastest-growing native USD₮ chain, with user growth of 506% over 12 months. The partnership aims to make digital assets more accessible and practical for everyday use, bridging traditional finance with blockchain technology.
