Bermuda unveils world’s first onchain national economy
Bermuda teams up with Coinbase and Circle to launch the world’s first fully onchain national economy, integrating blockchain payments and USDC across all sectors.
Bermuda has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Coinbase and Circle to establish the world’s first fully onchain national economy. The initiative, unveiled at the World Economic Forum in Davos, will integrate blockchain technology and digital assets across government agencies, banks, insurers, businesses, and consumers. The plan centers on deploying stablecoin payment solutions, with USDC serving as the primary settlement asset. Enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure will be developed, while Coinbase and Circle will provide the necessary infrastructure, corporate tools, and nationwide digital finance education to support onboarding for all stakeholders. Early pilot programs have already demonstrated reduced transaction fees and increased local commerce. This initiative aims to lower costs, expand global financial access, and accelerate digital finance adoption, positioning Bermuda as a leader in regulated blockchain innovation.
