Mastercard & Polygon Launch Verified Usernames for Crypto Wallets

Mastercard, Polygon, and Mercuryo launch verified usernames for self-custody wallets, replacing complex addresses with simple aliases to simplify crypto transfers and boost security.

Mastercard has partnered with Polygon and Mercuryo to expand its Crypto Credential initiative, introducing verified, human-readable usernames for self-custody crypto wallets. This system replaces complex wallet addresses with simple aliases, making digital asset transfers more intuitive and reducing the risk of errors. Mercuryo will verify users and issue these aliases, which can be linked to wallets and signaled on-chain via a soulbound token on Polygon. The initiative aims to standardize blockchain address verification, enhance security, and provide a familiar payments experience for users. Polygon was chosen for its speed, reliability, and low transaction fees, supporting seamless, credential-based transactions. The collaboration is designed to accelerate mainstream adoption of self-custody wallets by making Web3 transactions safer and more accessible.
