To transform the cryptocurrency mass adoption dream into reality, newcomers to the industry need an effortless but secure crypto storage and management solution. Fortunately, that solution is already here. Tangem is delighted to announce the full integration of $NEAR into the Tangem Wallet, making self-custody easier than ever for NEAR holders, regardless of their crypto experience or background.

What is the NEAR Protocol?

NEAR Protocol is a decentralized blockchain platform that enables smart contract and decentralized application (DApp) development. It aims to provide a secure, scalable, and developer-friendly environment for building and deploying blockchain-based applications.

NEAR Protocol uses a unique consensus mechanism known as "Nightshade," which combines elements of Proof of Stake (PoS) and sharding to achieve high throughput and low transaction fees. This architecture allows the NEAR network to process thousands of transactions per second, making it suitable for various applications.

Developers on NEAR have access to a robust set of tools, including a user-friendly smart contract language called "AssemblyScript," and various SDKs and libraries to streamline the development process. Additionally, NEAR features a user-friendly wallet, a cross-platform command-line interface, and a browser-based development environment to facilitate the creation of DApps.

NEAR Protocol also prioritizes user experience, aiming to provide a seamless and intuitive interface for both developers and end-users. This focus on usability seeks to lower barriers to entry for blockchain technology adoption.

Overall, NEAR Protocol aims to be a powerful and accessible blockchain platform that supports the growth of the decentralized ecosystem by enabling the creation of innovative applications across various industries.

How the Tangem Wallet works

The Tangem Wallet comprises the hardware wallet device and the Tangem mobile app. The wallet device includes two or three identical Tangem cards, each containing a secure chip, eliminating the need for seed phrases as a backup option. These cards generate and store the wallet's private key, making it impossible to extract.

The open-source Tangem app is an interface for users to interact with the cards, enabling tracking, trading, staking, and managing various tokens, including those in the NEAR protocol. The connection between the cards and the mobile app is facilitated through Near-field communication (NFC).

Other notable features include:

  • Full IP68 protection against water, dust, and extreme temperatures.
  • EAL6+ certified secure element protecting against all types of attacks.
  • An optional seed phrase.
  • A 25-year replacement warranty.
  • An independently audited firmware.
