Harmony Protocol exploited: 4 billion ONE tokens minted
Harmony Protocol was exploited for 4 billion ONE tokens (26% of supply), causing a 26% price drop. 2.8 billion tokens hit exchanges. Harmony is working to freeze funds and fix the vulnerability.
Harmony Protocol recently experienced a significant security breach, with an attacker illicitly minting approximately 4 billion ONE tokens—about 26% of the total supply. The exploit reportedly leveraged an empty-block vulnerability, allowing the attacker to bypass supply verification and create new tokens undetected. Of the minted tokens, around 2.8 billion were quickly sent to exchanges, triggering intense selling pressure and causing the ONE token price to plummet by 26% within 24 hours. Harmony is actively collaborating with exchanges to freeze the compromised funds and is working on a technical solution to address the vulnerability. The attacker still retains roughly 115 million ONE tokens on-chain. This incident has heightened concerns about Harmony’s security measures, especially in light of previous breaches. The team is considering potential rollback options and has promised to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
