The consensus algorithm used by Grin is the Cuckoo Cycle proof-of-work, involving two hashing algorithms: Cuckoo-29 for GPU mining and Cuckoo-31 for ASIC mining. This design encourages miners to transition to ASIC mining for efficiency while maintaining fairness at the launch. Grin's mainnet was launched on January 15, 2019, and it is now available for mining and trading.
