The Axelar network employs proof-of-stake consensus to ensure security. Validators on the network are responsible for producing new blocks, participating in multiparty signing, and voting on the states of external chains. The AXL token plays a crucial role in governance and is used to pay network transaction fees to validators and tokenholders.
How it works
Users of the Axelar network do not need to hold the AXL token directly. Instead, conversions into AXL tokens and destination-chain tokens are managed on the back end. This means users only need to pay gas fees once, in the source-chain token. The network's rewards are inflationary, increasing the total supply of AXL, but there is potential for the supply to become deflationary based on the transaction fee mechanics.
