Gopax Halts Withdrawals: Move Your Crypto to Self-Custody
Gopax froze withdrawals after a hacking threat. Self-custody keeps your keys in your hands.

On November 6, 2026, South Korean exchange Gopax halted withdrawals after receiving an email that threatened a hack. Deposits and standard withdrawals stopped at 2:55 p.m. KST, and trading was suspended later that day. Binance is a major shareholder of Gopax.
What happened
Gopax says no hack or theft has occurred and describes the halt as a precaution. The exchange has moved most assets from its hot wallet into offline cold storage. It has not disclosed who sent the email or what it said.
Users currently cannot withdraw through the Gopax website or app, but they can send a withdrawal request to the Gopax support center. Staff reviews each request manually, so processing takes longer than usual. Gopax has not announced a restart date, but says it will publish the criteria for resuming withdrawals.
Other Korean exchanges are reacting to the halt. Upbit, Bithumb, and DigitalX have warned users about transfers to Gopax, and each exchange can restrict withdrawals to Gopax if needed.
The key takeaway for users
Gopax acted early, and no funds have been lost so far, but users still cannot access their crypto. This is the risk of exchange custody: the platform controls your access, and a security event can pause it. The principle “not your keys, not your coins” still applies to long-term storage. Once withdrawals resume, move your assets to self-custody.
How to move from Gopax to Tangem Wallet
- Download the Tangem app on your phone.
- Create a Mobile Wallet and back it up with a seed phrase, iCloud, or Google Drive. You can also use a Tangem hardware wallet, which is recommended.
- Tap Add funds and select the token you need, for example, ETH. Use the search bar to find it.
- Choose the network that receives the token, then tap Confirm.
- Tap Receive to see your public address.
- Tap Copy to copy the address, then open Gopax.
Withdrawing from Gopax (once withdrawals resume)
- Log in to Gopax and open your Wallet.
- Select the coin you want to withdraw.
- Tap Withdraw.
- Paste your Tangem address into the Address field.
- Select the identical network.
- Enter the amount.
- Check the address, network, and amount.
- Confirm the withdrawal with your verification method.
- Wait for the status to change to complete.
Korean exchanges can require you to register and verify an external wallet address before the first withdrawal. Confirm the Gopax process and add a step if needed.
⚠️ Warning. A wrong network causes permanent loss of your funds. Select the same network on Gopax as you did in Tangem.
Open the Tangem app and check your balance. Your funds appear after the network confirms the transaction. Confirmation times depend on the network.
If the funds do not arrive, find the transaction hash in your Gopax withdrawal history and paste it into a blockchain explorer to check the status.
Tips for safe withdrawals
- Send a test amount first, confirm that it arrives, and then send the rest.
- Do not send funds to Gopax now. Deposits are halted, and assets sent to Gopax can fail to credit.
- Watch for scams. Scammers use exchange incidents to steal from users, so use only official Gopax channels and never share your seed phrase or verification codes.
- Use the support center for urgent requests, and expect delays during manual review.
Why Tangem?
Self-custody means you control your own keys. No exchange can freeze your funds or pause withdrawals.
Tangem gives you clear advantages:
- Self-custody. Tangem does not store, access, or control your funds or keys.
- Secure chip. The card holds your keys on a secure element with EAL6+ certification.
- Seedless backup. You can decide not to use a seed phrase.
- Tap to sign. Tap the card to your phone to approve each transaction.
- Broad token support. Tangem supports 90+ blockchain networks in one app.
- Tough build. The card has an IP69K rating for dust and water.
- In-app swaps. Tangem compares prices from DEXs, CEXs, and bridges.
- Native staking. You can stake ATOM, BNB, GRAM, POL on Ethereum, SOL, TRX, ETH, and ADA.
- Tangem Pay. Spend stablecoins with a Visa card in supported regions.
- Audited app. The Tangem app is open source and independently audited.
