KlimaDAO is a pioneering initiative aimed at creating a transparent, neutral, and public Digital Carbon Market. Founded in 2021, it was established by individuals from three competing organizations who sought to address market failures in the traditional Voluntary Carbon Market. The DAO has since grown to include over 50 contributors and more than 100,000 KLIMA token holders. In 2022, KlimaDAO facilitated over $4 billion in carbon credit trades and expanded its treasury assets to over $100 million.

KlimaDAO serves as the foundational infrastructure for the Digital Carbon Market, supporting platforms like Carbonmark, the universal carbon market. It collaborates with organizations such as Polygon, Circle, and the Liechtenstein Bankers Association to assist various sectors, including airlines, auto companies, banks, and Web3 projects, in achieving their sustainability goals. Notably, KlimaDAO launched a carbon retirement aggregator in 2022, allowing individuals and organizations to offset their carbon footprints seamlessly.

How it works

KlimaDAO's infrastructure enables the trading, acquisition, and retirement of digital carbon credits. In March 2023, Carbonmark was launched as a platform for these activities, offering a user-friendly 'Web 2.5' experience. This platform provides institutional access to millions of carbon credits and KlimaDAO's digital carbon infrastructure without additional fees. The Polygon Network, an early adopter, used KlimaDAO's services to retire over 100,000 digital carbon credits, achieving carbon neutrality. This move attracted brands like Instagram, Nike, and Bentley to build with Polygon, highlighting its leadership in sustainability.
