About the coin
Kintsugi Network (KINT) is Interlay's experimental network deployed on Kusama, designed to test new features with real economic value. It shares the same code base as Interlay but focuses on innovation. Kintsugi aims to connect cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin with DeFi platforms such as Polkadot and Ethereum, operating as a Polkadot parachain.
Main features
Kintsugi's flagship product, kBTC, is a 1:1 Bitcoin-backed asset on Kusama, resembling an algorithmic stablecoin. It is backed by multi-collateral insurance, ensuring users can redeem kBTC for Bitcoin. KINT, the native utility token, is used for governance votes and transaction fees. The network launched in October 2021 with an unlimited supply of KINT, distributed through airdrops, block rewards, and a reserve for development.
How it works
Kintsugi's kBTC is secured by insurance, with Vaults locking collateral on the kBTC parachain. If Vaults misbehave, their collateral is slashed, and users are reimbursed. Anyone can become a Vault to help secure kBTC. At launch, collateral is put down in DOT, with plans to extend to stablecoins for stability. Users must trust Bitcoin's security and the chain they use kBTC on, with a recommended minimum of 6 confirmations for Bitcoin blocks.
