Both give you full self-custody and the same app features. The difference is where your private keys are stored. In the mobile wallet, they're encrypted and kept on your phone. In the hardware wallet, they're generated and stored on a dedicated chip inside the card or ring that never connects to the internet - the strongest protection, best for larger portfolios.

Yes. When you upgrade your existing mobile wallet, its keys are backed up to the hardware wallet, so your addresses and balances stay exactly as they are - no on-chain transfer and no network fees.
